ARTIST STATEMENT
Graduating from the University for the Creative Arts in 2014 with BA (Hons) First Class degree in 3 Dimensional Design: Glass. I have found the intriguing alchemy of glass a catalyst for a journey of discovery into endless possibilities. Embracing the creative challenge of working with a material with transitional properties of solid and liquid is exciting and challenging. I am always keen to experiment, to push the boundaries of working with glass and to constantly seek new possibilities and outcomes with its transformational qualities. Natural forms and textures from landscape and coastal areas are the inspiration for much of my work. Nature’s palette - the subtle hues of sunsets and skies, the freshness of Spring and the colours of the ocean can all be found in my work. Such subtle combinations of colour, contours and undulations convey nature's narrative, expressed through the qualities of lead crystal glass. I use lost wax and mould making processes to create individual decorative and sculptural work from lead crystal glass, the high reflective surface qualities of which allow me to highlight detail and contrast. The works I create suit both public and private settings, and range from small scale decorative bowls and sculptural centre pieces to larger scale wall panels. I am a Licentiate of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and a member of the Contemporary Glass Society and recent exhibitions have included The Oxo Tower on London's South Bank , The Bilston Craft Gallery, Wolverhampton and The Mall Galleries, London and more locally, The Mill Studios, Guildford and Guildford House Gallery. I also run half day fused glass workshops in my studio - more details can be found on my page on Workshops. |
